LANdSCAPE Paintings
Recent inspiration has come from an aerial view of the landscape , triggered by flying over the Welsh Marches in 2019 . The abstract pattern of field and hedges prompted a series of paintings and collages that are less representative than earlier landscapes.
“ But having lived in rural mid Wales for over 4o years, my surroundings have seeped into my subconscious. In a painting , a familiar composition often surfaces like a default setting , however hard I try to refocus . There is a dip in a skyline where I often walk that I have exaggerated many times. It often seems to creep into a painting, uninvited”
I am drawn to buildings and structure in a landscape ; I see them as a focus that punctuates a composition and brings a geometric contrast to nature, especially when viewed from above.
